For their front desk at Commerce Court West, in the heart of Toronto’s financial district, the clients requested a piece that would be energetic and dynamic, while remaining congruent with the minimalist architecture of the building and the aesthetic of Bay St. The final product was Relativity, a 40-foot long functional workspace for security and reception staff, which also doubled as a programmable animated LED-light piece. The bands of colour on the front of the desk serve as a clock: the length of the red band denoting the hour, and the position of the blue bock indicating the minute. For different occasions, the LED lights are reprogrammed to move the colour bands in different patterns, or to remain static.
