WINDSCAPE

2012
Robotic Sculpture

Client: Luminato Festival
Location: David Pecault Square, Toronto
Role: Brad Hindson, Project Lead for Diamond + Schmitt;
Artistic Consultants
Collaborators: Diamond + Schmitt Architects (architect);
Hamilton Scenic (fabricator);
Blackwell Engineering (engineer).

Wind, corralled and choreographed in a robotic ballet.

Nine programmable, interactive sculptures swivel and rotate atop 25-foot-tall stilts. Big, bright windsocks mounted to robotic fans swell and deflate, all while changing in colour and intensity in response to live music. The result is an ever-evolving mechanized ballet of colour and light.

Also a clock, special choreography every hour further enhances the immersive musical experience.
